Clifford Court Tutoring Program
Clifford Court is a public housing complex in Elgin, IL on 583 Owasco Court Apt. A (847-468-1184) across from Clifford Owasco park. It is here we are able to serve children coming from difficult circumstances by offering homework assistance. Feel free to take a peek at this video from our Riverwoods partner about Clifford Court in general.
The program runs Tuesdays through Thursdays 2:30-4:30pm throughout the school year, except during school vacations. There are opportunities to do one-on-one tutoring or group tutoring. Additional Friday sessions are also available, and the singular focus is on literacy/reading.
Tutoring experience is helpful but not necessary, as training will be provided. Volunteers need not be there every day nor the entire time, but consistency is requested. Volunteer tutors will be required to go through a background check.
A summer reading program is also available. Please inquire below for more details.
Please note that because the tutoring program is supported and run by the U46 school district that we must honor the separation of church and state and focus primarily on tutoring and building a friendship. However, you are encouraged to build relationships in such a way that would foster opportunities to invite the child to read at the library with you, go to the park, come to church with you, etc. In these environments, you should feel free to share Christ openly.
