Be Salt in the World!

Be Salt in the World!

January 21, 2021

We have been talking about thinking right about what’s going wrong in regards to interacting with people with different beliefs than you. What is another way that we can do this?

Number three – be salt in the world and proclaim the Good News!

Our main calling and our greatest gift to the world is the proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ. This is the only message that gives hope.  That’s where we start. We don’t start with pro-life action. We start with the gospel, and we proclaim that good news to others!  Justice for the unborn is not the gospel.  Salvation for sinners through repentance and faith in Christ is the gospel.

An observation I have about Christians is that our “circles” are most often other Christians.  The reason that is a problem is that we are no longer salt or light, and our effectiveness in sharing the gospel with anyone is almost nil.  You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. Matt. 5:13.

The function of salt is to purify, but if it is not used (literally rubbed on the impurity), impurity remains.  In the same way, we can’t help purify or redeem the world unless we are in it.  In other words, we should not isolate ourselves from those who think differently than we do.  Remember, Jesus did not come to condemn the world but to save it.

I have to admit…it is a lot easier to not get involved with those who think differently and are different than me.  That close proximity is messy, hard, dirty, exhausting, and a ton of other adjectives.  But, the only way many will know the love of Jesus is to hear and to feel it, and that requires proximity and relationship.  So, be salt in the world!
