Love & Faith in Action

Love & Faith in Action

by Lisa Garon on June 24, 2020

Our final partner to feature during our June Monthly Community Impact Focus on the Multicultural and Immigrants Impact Area is an ESL program which meets in DeKalb. Love and Faith in Action was started by Dr. George Gutierrez about five years ago. George is a pastor and a Christ Community Church member. Brian Nielsen, a key volunteer at the DeKalb Christ Community Church campus, has been involved with the ministry since February 2019.

Love in Faith in Action conducts ESL classes, GED tutoring and biblical family discussions. While the main clientele are Hispanic, anyone is welcome to participate. Typically, they meet at the DeKalb Outreach Center once to twice per week.

Nielsen says, "We are always looking for ESL teachers but we also need tutors, especially volunteers willing to help with students' children. Love and Faith in Action are blessed with dedicated volunteers who are able to generally serve whenever they meet for classes. The hope is to increase their  volunteers in hopes of providing regular volunteers a break. They also would love to see an increase of volunteers from Christ Community, to bring in the heart of Christ to this ministry."

Their heart is to see an increased number of volunteers participating in ESL classes from Christ Community Church. They are asking for prayer for more believing volunteers, who have a heart for people who just want to be a part of the community. Also, please pray for more students, and that they would find a place where they can feel loved and safe.  It is always on their heart to pray for open doors for the gospel to be shared.
