The Forgotten Initiative

The Forgotten Initiative (TFI) has been apart of our community for a little over seven years. This organization helps to support the foster care community through awareness, encouragement, and advocacy. They provide service to agency workers, foster parents, vulnerable adults and vulnerable children.

By entering into relationship with the foster care community, people serving are changed too. They are drawn to Jesus in new ways, perspectives are shifted, and our need for Jesus is made more apparent. These are the hopes of The Forgotten Initiative.

As with many others, covid-19 has greatly impacted those ministered through The Forgotten Initiative. Local Advocate and Christ Community Church attender Vicki Kellenberger tells us, “Kids in vulnerable families without community resources, support, and child care are more vulnerable to abuse, neglect, and poor mental health.  Not being at school physically,  their well-being is monitored less often.

Agency workers have added stress as they are working from home,  trying to take care of their own kids and being required to check in more frequently with vulnerable and foster families. Resources are also less available for all vulnerable and foster families.”

If someone wants to get involved with TFI, there are many opportunities to do so! From serving agency workers to filling journey bags to families serving families, you can find these opportunities on our SimplyServe opportunity finder.

There are many opportunities to pray for TFI. Here are just a few key requests:

  • Wisdom, strength, and direction for our team as we seek God’s will in supporting our local foster care community and for those we serve in our local foster care community
  • Children in foster care to feel loved, cared for, and safe and to see the love of Jesus through those who care for them
  • Foster parents to be surrounded with a network or encouragers
  • Biological parents to understand and desire to do what is necessary to care for their children well
  • Young adults who will age out of the foster care system to establish meaningful and long-lasting relationships
  • Agency workers to get rest from the stress of their job
  • Vulnerable adults to feel God’s love and healing in their lives
  • Believers to be consumed with compassion for children in foster care and make themselves available for whatever God calls them to
  • Ultimately that all in the foster care community who don’t yet know Jesus will come to know Him and His saving grace.
