Thinking right about what’s going wrong: The Sanctity of Human Life (part 2)

Sanctity of Human Life Sunday will be observed nationally this Sunday, January 17. This week we will focus on the second of four points…that are concerned with our own attitudes and behavior towards those who think and behave differently than us:

Number two – remember that we are all sinners in need of a Savior!

That is the most important fact to know about us – not who is pro-life and who is pro-choice. Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am the foremost (Paul in 1 Timothy 1:15). God’s love and forgiveness are extended to all…even the abortionist and the mom and dad who decided to have an abortion.

This point came alive/real to me during the 40 Days campaign in Atlanta in 2015. I was praying and the Lord brought to my mind Romans 8:1 – “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” I was overcome with emotion and started to cry…and that is not me…I never cry! But at that moment, God was making me identify closely with those moms and dads who have abortions…because…

I have received an over-abundance of God’s grace in my own life! I am compelled to give grace because I have been a recipient of grace. Do we fight for the rights of those who can’t speak for themselves? Absolutely! Yes! But, we must balance that (and live in tension with) with Jesus’ mandate and example to not be personally unloving.
