I Have My Doubts: The Existence of God

Today, we’re dealing with the most basic doubt of all—the existence of God. How do we know God exists? Now, when it comes to the existence of God—there are no absolute proofs…just pieces of evidence… just clues.

Why no absolute proofs? Hey, if there’s a God—why doesn’t he make his existence totally undeniable? One theologian answers that question this way: God has provided each of us with the opportunity to make an eternal choice: to accept him or reject him. And in order to ensure that our choice is truly free, he puts us in an environment that is filled with evidence of his existence, but without his direct presence—a presence so powerful that it could overwhelm our freedom and thus negate our ability to reject him… God has provided enough evidence in this life to convince anyone willing to believe, yet he has also left some ambiguity so as not to compel the unwilling.

Did you follow that? God has given us ample evidence, not absolute proofs. He’s given us clues that point to his existence—which we can accept or reject.
