Recap on Human Trafficking 101

Last week we introduced you to Human Trafficking 101, where we talked about what human trafficking is, how big the problem is, why it’s hard for women to get out, and a little bit about what Naomi’s House does to help victims of sex trafficking.

We learned that trafficking is an immense, worldwide problem that touches every community and demographic. We learned that victims are usually groomed and manipulated until it’s too hard to escape their situation. Victims become stuck with no good way of leaving their circumstances. We also learned of several factors that keep women and victims from getting out.

Path to Healing

Naomi’s House is focused on helping women heal and grow. They do this through:

  • Trauma-Informed Care
  • Comprehensive Programming
  • Individualized Focus
  • A Strength-Based Approach
  • Faith-Based Initiatives
A New Start

The staff at NH believe that everyone deserves a new start. The healing process does not come easily! The staff have been working on their program and have determined that 15 months is usually how long the healing process takes to work through things at NH. Naomi’s House has been up and running for 4.5 years now and has seen many women through its programs.

Four Ways to Heal

There are four aspects to Naomi’s House programming:

  1. Naomi’s House Residential Program- This is a comprehensive program that offers hope and healing to victims of sex trafficking.
  2. NH4- This is a transitional living program for graduates of the residential program.
  3. Graduate Services- Naomi’s House is dedicated to providing support to these women as long as circumstances allow.
  4. NH Gathering Place- This is exciting as this will be opening in 2021 as the new day program for Naomi’s House! This is modeled after the residential program to help victims heal from their trauma.

The NH4 four corners of accountability and support help provide women independence, but also accountability to help prevent them from relapsing.

So what can I do?

There are several ways to help both Naomi’s House and the problem of human trafficking in general.

Know the problem– The Community Impact team at Christ Community Church recognizes that to make a change, you must recognize that there is a problem that needs work. Acknowledging the problem as one that is present in your community and then educating yourself on what’s going on is the first place to start.

Partner with Naomi’s House– You can partner with Naomi’s House in a few ways:

  1. Volunteering– Naomi’s House needs volunteers to help them with their programs.
  2. Financial Help– It takes help from partners in the church and community to help financially fund their efforts. Become a Hero Partner HERE.
  3. Prayer– If you are unable to help financially or with volunteer time, you can always pray for the staff, the women who are going through recovery, and the problem of human trafficking.

Give to their Registry– Naomi’s House has a registry for needs that you can find HERE.

Be a Tour Guide– You can help the residents get to appointments, work, school, and other obligations. You would help transport them, but also be a listening ear and encourager.

Be a Program Volunteer- Program volunteers teach life skills, lead group therapy, cook meals, lead Bible studies, and other roles. To become a Program Volunteer, start with this APPLICATION.

Be a Mentor– Mentors are Program Volunteers with a longer-term commitment. Women who have the gift of shepherding and discipleship are needed to walk alongside the women in our program. Mentors commit to meet with women regularly and become integral relationships in the women’s lives (information gathered from Naomi’s House WEBSITE). To become a mentor, start by emailing info@naomishouse.org.

Together we can start to make a difference for those suffering at the hands of traffickers!
