There's giving and then there's tithing.
Giving is exactly what it sounds like. It is when you give any amount of money as we pool our resources so we can carry out God's mission together as a church family.
So what is tithing? The word "tithe" means "tenth." A tithe is when you consistently give 10% or more of your income to the work of your local church. Tithing is God's baseline for committed followers of Jesus. It is a way of saying, "God, everything I have comes from you and belongs to you. I want what I have to be used for your purposes." Practically speaking, when we all tithe, it ensures that we can continue to do all the things God has called us to do. But, best of all, over time, the practice of tithing turns us into the joyful, openhearted people we want to be, because it makes us more like our generous God.
There is a full Christ Community positional paper on tithing available at the information counter of all campuses.
