Orphan Sunday – November 8th

“I was an orphan… BUT I WAS FOUND.”
“I didn’t belong to anybody… BUT NOW I BELONG.”

What a powerful video! We are all orphans, but with the love of our Father God, we belong. We matter. We are pursued. We are cherished.

While attending a church service in Zambia, an American visitor witnessed the local pastor’s passionate call to care for orphans in a community that had been ravaged by AIDS and poverty. During that first-ever “Orphan Sunday,” as the service ended, one after another, the people stepped forward giving out of their own need, offering their food, and some even taking off their own shoes and placing them in the offering basket for orphans. That visitor, Gary Schneider, was so deeply impacted by what he had witnessed that he began to help Zambian leaders coordinate Orphan Sunday efforts across Zambia and also shared the vision in the U.S. as well.

Orphan Sunday became a catalyst for awareness and action across the U.S. and worldwide. Today, churches and organizations in more than 90 nations observe Orphan Sunday annually.

Orphan Sunday

According to UNICEF, there are roughly 140 MILLION orphans worldwide. That’s hard to wrap your mind around. With a problem so big, it’s hard to know how you can help. At Christ Community Church, we believe in the power of prayer.

On Sunday, November 8th, what you CAN do is set aside time to pray for these children and adults that feel forgotten. Unwanted. Unloved. Join in prayer at 7pm Central on November 8th to pray. Your prayer and service will help bring light to a dark place.
