CHRIST COMMUNITY PRESENTS CAPTAIN OF SOUTHWEST FLIGHT 1380 & US NAVY PIONEER

ST. CHARLES, IL – On December 12 & 13, the weekend services of Christ Community Church will feature an exclusive interview with Captain Tammie Jo Shults, author of the 2019 book Nerves of Steel.

Shults was one of the first two female fighter pilots in the United States Navy. Following active duty, she became a pilot for Southwest Airlines. On April 17, 2018, she safely landed Southwest Airlines Flight 1380 after the aircraft suffered both engine failure and rapid decompression of the aircraft.

And now, she will tell her story live as part of the church’s ‘Inspiring Stories’ series on December 11 & 12 (Saturday at 5pm and Sunday at 9am) at Christ Community’s St. Charles Campus, located at the northwest corner of Randall Road and Bolcum Road in St. Charles. ST. CHARLES, IL – Christ Community Church invites you to a special Inspiring Stories Weekend on October 3 and 4 with former baseball standout Darryl Strawberry. In his 17 seasons of professional baseball, Strawberry accumulated a legendary list of achievements including Rookie of the Year, 4 World Series Titles, and 9 All-Star Games.

“I have a heart for people, especially those who are faced with conditions, situations, or battles in their lives that often bring a deep sense of hopelessness to the soul,” said Strawberry.

That inspiring message may be needed now more than ever. Strawberry will tell his story of hope and redemption live in social-distanced indoor services at Christ Community’s St. Charles Campus at the corner of Randall and Bolcum Road at 5pm on October 3 and 9am on October 4. LOCAL CHURCH HOLDS NO-CONTACT FOOD DRIVE FOR AURORA AREA FOOD PANTRY

ST. CHARLES, IL – Christ Community Church held a no-contact food drive on May 6 for the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry that brought in 22,690 lbs of food at four drop-off locations. According to the food pantry, this will feed 200 families for a week.

The four drop-off points included the Christ Community Church campuses located in St. Charles, Dekalb, and Streamwood. Christ Community’s Aurora Campus used the food pantry itself as a drop-off point. Those donating simply opened their trunks for masked and gloved volunteers to unload the food and then pack boxes for the food pantry. Twenty-five volunteers ran this event across the four locations.

“I was extremely pleased with the response,” said Community Impact Pastor Kris Eldridge. “People were really thankful that the church had put on a food drive for the community.”

The church would like to host more events like this in the future, but until then, Eldridge recommends people reach out to their local communities to see ways they can help like checking on elderly, high-risk neighbors with a phone call, or assisting with meal delivery for the homebound.

“The best way we can help our communities is by serving our neighbors. We as a church have been in a season of loving our neighbors for quite some time. So, there is no time like the present to step in and love our neighbors well.”
